Bali airport transfer zones, explained for agents

Bali transfers are priced by zone, not by distance, and the zone boundaries are a supplier decision rather than a geographic fact. That is why two quotes for the same transfer can differ by more than the vehicle class explains.

The broad zones from Ngurah Rai (DPS)

Working outward from the airport, transfers are generally banded roughly like this:

• Nearest: Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Jimbaran
• Next: Sanur, Nusa Dua, Denpasar, Canggu
• Further: Ubud, Tanah Lot, Uluwatu
• Long haul: Padang Bai, Candidasa, Bedugul, Kintamani, Sidemen
• Far north and west: Lovina, Singaraja, Amed, Tulamben, Pemuteran, Menjangan, Gilimanuk

Where suppliers disagree

This is the part that catches agents out. One operator groups Sanur with Kuta in the cheapest band; another groups Sanur with Nusa Dua one band up. Same drive, different zone, different price. You cannot merge two suppliers' rate sheets into one master without first deciding whose zoning you are using — the boundaries genuinely do not line up.

Return legs

Most suppliers will run the reverse leg (hotel to airport) at the same rate as the arrival. It is worth confirming rather than assuming, and worth checking whether a late-night or pre-dawn departure carries a surcharge — many Indian-market flights leave Bali at unsociable hours.

Inter-hotel transfers

Multi-centre itineraries — three nights south, three nights Ubud — need an inter-hotel transfer priced as its own line. Do not assume it falls out of the airport zone table.

What is not in the transfer rate

Toll on the Bali Mandara road affects only the Nusa Dua, airport and Benoa corridor. Parking is charged per stop. Neither is in the transfer price. See what Bali transport rates exclude.
