Indian, vegetarian & Jain food in Bali

Catering is the single most common reason a Bali itinerary goes wrong for Indian groups. Bali is not a vegetarian island by default — meals have to be contracted in advance.

What to brief, and when

Pure vegetarian is straightforward if it is booked ahead. Jain is not: no onion, no garlic, no root vegetables, and separate preparation. Bali kitchens can do it, but the requirement has to reach the restaurant days before the group lands — not on the coach on the way there.

  • Confirm veg and Jain counts at booking, not at final documentation.
  • Say which meals are affected — lunch on tour days is the usual gap.
  • Gujarati and Rajasthani groups normally want set thali rather than à la carte.
  • Request a Hindi-speaking guide separately. English is Bali's default.

Pure vegetarian

Set thali and buffet options across Kuta, Seminyak and Ubud.

Jain meals

No onion, garlic or root vegetables — arranged in advance.

Hindi guides

Requested separately; limited availability in peak season.
