Bali seasons: low, peak, and the compulsory Christmas gala dinner
Bali hotel contracts run on seasons, and one of them is two days long. If your group is in Bali on 24 or 25 December, the gala dinner is not optional.
A Bali hotel rate is not one number. It is a number per season, and the seasons are set by the property, not by the calendar you would expect.
The usual shape
- Low season — broadly April to June. The best value window, and comfortable weather for Indian and Southeast Asian groups.
- Peak season — July and August. School holidays across most source markets, highest rates, tightest availability.
- Shoulder — September to November and February to March, depending on property.
- Gala dinner — 24 and 25 December. Two days, and it is its own season.
The gala dinner is compulsory
This is the one that catches agents who have not sold Bali over Christmas before. Many properties add a mandatory gala dinner supplement for guests in house on 24 and 25 December — and often for 31 December as well. It is charged per person, adults and children at different rates, and it applies whether or not your group intends to eat at the hotel.
It is not a food-and-beverage upsell you can decline. It is a condition of staying those nights, and it appears as a separate season row on the contract precisely because it is not part of the room rate.
What this means for a December quote
- Check whether any night of the stay falls on 24, 25 or 31 December before you quote.
- Ask for the gala supplement per adult and per child, separately from the room rate.
- For vegetarian and Jain groups, confirm the gala menu can be catered — you are paying for it regardless, so it needs to be edible.
- Expect minimum-night restrictions across the Christmas and New Year window.
Contract validity
Separately from seasons, every contract has a validity period. A rate sheet with no printed "valid from / valid to" is a rate that can move between your quote and your client's travel. Ask for the dates in writing — and check them, because a sheet headed with last year's period is a historical document, not a quotation.
